Welcome back to ALL THINGS GIRL! My guest today is bestselling paranormal and contemporary romance author, Carrie Ann Ryan!

SB: Welcome to ALL THINGS GIRL, Carrie Ann! First things first, describe the shoes you are currently wearing and what you love about them.

CAR: Thank you for having me! I’m barefoot on my couch. LOL. However, the shoes I will be wearing in 10 minutes are my red plaid flats. They are so comfy and slightly emo that I feel like a kid LOL

SB: Cute! I love plaid! :-) So, when and why did you begin writing?

CAR: I’ve always been writing or have conversations in my head. But I started writing for publication almost a year ago.

SB: When did you first consider yourself a writer?

CAR: This is a hard one because some days I feel like I am and other days I feel like I’m the minnow in the big ocean “playing” writer. But I think the first time I got an email from a fan I knew who I was.

SB: What inspired you to write your first book?

CAR: I always wanted to write about werewolves. I love the paranormal and I wanted to see what would happen if someone who didn’t believe was thrust in that situation.

SB: How did you come up with the title?

CAR: For this book, my Title A Night Away, was easy. Mel and Kade literally needed just one night away from the stress and pressure of their lives to reconnect.

SB: Sexy! So, is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

CAR: That being a mom is hard! And that no matter what happens, mommy and daddy need time together alone. Oh, and I’m in love with Maddox. LOL

SB: Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?

CAR: I’m not a mom so my crit partner Lia Davis had to coach me through the ups and downs.

SB: What books have most influenced your life most?

CAR: The first book I read was Anne Frank. Because of her I started writing in journals. Now look what I do.

SB: What book are you reading now?

CAR: I read around 8 books a week LOL. But I’m in a Diana Palmer phase. They are older books so it’s a little odd getting into the 80’s romance, but I’m enjoying myself LOL.

SB: What inspires you as a writer?

CAR: Anything and everything. I love characters so if I see a picture or listen to a song, a person usually comes to me.

SB: Can you share a little of your current work with us?

CAR: Sure! Here is a snippet from Dust of My Wings – Dante’s Circle Book 1 out in July. Its unedited, so no judging LOL

A summons from the council never led to good things. Shade Griffin’s millennia worth of experience told him that. But no matter what he truly desired, he’d do what he was told. He didn’t have another option. And why would he disobey? He never had before. Why stop now? Though whatever demands they dealt may seem tedious to a long-lived being such as him, he didn’t have anything else better to do.

Such was the life of an angel in his predicament. A vast and endless sense of being, yet no one to share it with.

Shade shook off the misery that threatened to creep along his skin and suffocate him. That idea had long since burned away. No need to think about it again.

SB: Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

CAR: While I write, it’s hard to pull away sometimes from the world around me and write an action scene. My brain works so fast that I have to slow it down to enjoy it LOL.

SB: Do you ever experience writers block? How do you overcome it?

CAR: I always have stories and ideas. It’s more of when I’m looking at a blank page and wondering how to start. Though once I do, I can’t stop.

SB: Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?

CAR: I love so many. But Nalini Singh is up there in being freaking amazing. Her details, characters, descriptions….just wow.

SB: Who designed the cover of your book? Were you involved in the process?

CAR: This one was done by me and Lia Davis actually, so I was REALLY involved.

SB: What was the hardest part of writing your book?

CAR: Keeping it short! I didn’t want to leave Mel and Kade, but I only allotted a novella in my timing LOL.

SB: Did you learn anything from writing your book and what was it?

CAR: That being a mom is hard! LOL

SB: Do you have any advice for other writers?

CAR: Write!!! Don’t talk about writing…just write!

SB: Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

CAR: I’m just so happy that I even have readers! LOL. Thank you soooo much for everything! I wouldn’t be here without you.

A Night Away

Book 3.5 in the Redwood Pack Series

Kade Jamenson has been mated to Melanie for almost two years. They’ve been through mating circles, battles, loss, misunderstandings, and finally, the birth of their son, Finn. The world is in turmoil around them as the Redwoods engage in war with the Centrals. But for Kade and Melanie, the turmoil is also happening at home. The responsibility of a restless baby and their Pack has taken a toll and they need a break.

Not from each other. But from their Pack. Just for a night.

Kade takes Mel away for a romantic getaway and leaves Uncle Maddox alone with baby Finn. The Omega of the Redwood Pack may be adept at emotions but the idea of a baby may be beyond his immense capabilities.

Author’s Note: This is a novella set between books 3 and 4 to give you a taste of Mel and Kade. It is best that you have already immersed yourselves in the Redwood Pack world, however even new readers will enjoy a glimpse of one of the Redwood’s favorite couples.

A Night Away Excerpt

Kade Jamenson closed his eyes and prayed for resolution. A piercing shriek startled him, making him jump to his feet.

Finn.

Finn. His eleven-month-old son, who wouldn’t stop screaming, no matter what they did. The kid always needed something, either to be fed, changed, held, burped, played with, or just stared at. It seemed never ending. Even now that he was older, he still screamed or babbled constantly.

Dear God. How the hell did humans do this? Kade had more endurance than any human, witch, and most werewolves out there. Yet a tiny fifteen-pound baby with big blue eyes took every ounce of strength he possessed. Not to mention sleep time.

Kade groaned and rolled his neck before he walked into his son’s room. He and Melanie had painted the room in a soft green to match the Jameson eyes and added cream borders to break it up. Dark wood furniture filled the room along with cream linens covered with frog princes and bumblebees. Stuffed animals of every sort covered the tops of most pieces of furniture, gifts from his Pack and family, who cherished Finn like their own son. He took another step in and realized he hadn’t been the first one to answer his son’s call.
